IBM Unit Announces Layoffs: Metaphor Inc., a Silicon Valley-based software company owned by International Business Machines Corp., said it will lay off 20% of its employees. The company also said it has promoted its senior vice president of products, Chris Grejtak, to president and chief executive. He replaces Catherine Y. Selleck, who is retiring after two years at Metaphor and 36 years with IBM. About 400 people work for Metaphor. The layoffs, which the company said are part of a corporate restructuring, will affect the administrative, marketing, sales, services and development staffs.
