LYNWOOD : Feb. 15 Runoff Vote to Settle School Board Tie
The Lynwood Unified School District will have a special election Feb. 15 to break a tie between two incumbents seeking reelection.
Board members Joe T. Battle and Rachel Chavez each received 1,281 votes in the Nov. 2 race. Two of the five board seats were on the ballot, but newcomer Laura M. Byrd outpolled the two incumbents. Chavez and Battle have continued to serve, making it a six-member board since December.
School board members decided Dec. 9 to hold the special election, which will cost an estimated $42,000. The county registrar’s office last week set the Feb. 15 date.
