OXNARD : Authorities Identify Victim of Fatal Crash

An 88-year-old Oxnard woman who died after crashing her car into a parked vehicle was identified as Gladys Elfrink, authorities said Friday.
Elfrink had just stopped by her doctor’s office Thursday to make an appointment when she suddenly swerved into a parked car in the 900 block of West Fifth Street. When rescue workers arrived, Elfrink was unconscious inside her car but had no visible injuries.
She was transported to St. John’s Regional Medical Center but never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead at 3:15 p.m., said Zelmira Isaac, a deputy coroner.
Because Elfrink had a history of heart trouble, doctors suspected she had suffered a heart attack inside her car. But an autopsy performed Friday showed that she died of chest injuries from the impact of the crash, Isaac said.
