Shawn Adkins, 21, of Thousand Oaks was stabbed twice and severely wounded late Friday when the car in which he was riding was attacked on the 500 block of Oaktree Lane by 15 to 20 gang members attending a party there, the spokesman said.

Adkins underwent emergency surgery at Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks, and was listed in fair condition Saturday, a hospital spokeswoman said. Two other people in Adkins’ car reportedly ran from the scene as the car was pounded with rocks and clubs. They escaped without injury, a Sheriff’s Department report said.

Several other vehicles accompanying Adkins’ car sped from the scene when his car was attacked, the spokesman said. Shots were fired from one of the vehicles, and another one of the cars hit 19-year-old Lance Banglos, a spokesman said. Banglos was treated at the hospital and released, a spokeswoman said.

Police believe that the injured pair were from rival gangs, a spokesman said.

The vehicle involved in the hit-and-run was abandoned a short distance from the scene, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

A few hours after the incident, a man identified by witnesses as the driver of the car telephoned the East Valley Sheriff’s Station to turn himself in, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

Jason Jones, 19, of Thousand Oaks was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport and was booked at the East Valley Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. His bail was set at $5,000.

No other arrests have been made in the incident, which is still under investigation.
