BRIEFLY : Politics: November Vote on Civic Center?

Share

Opponents of the Santa Monica Civic Center redevelopment plan don’t know yet whether their referendum has qualified for the ballot, but they do know which ballot they want it on: November’s.

In separate letters to Mayor Judy Abdo state Sen. Tom Hayden (D-Santa Monica) and the opponents’ group, Citizens for a Better Civic Center, urged delaying a vote until November to save money. They claim it will be $80,000 cheaper than a special election and $50,000 cheaper than adding the referendum to the June ballot.

But Abdo said her preference is to deal with the matter sooner rather than later.
