Ellie Nesler’s Sentence

Daniel Driver was convicted of child molestation in 1983 and served three months in jail for this heinous crime. Ellie Nesler was convicted of voluntary manslaughter of a convicted child molester and was sentenced to 10 years in prison (Jan. 8). Ten years for executing the molester of her young son, and incidentally, protecting other children from this most vile of criminals who undoubtedly would again have been released by our “justice system.”

If our justice system did its job, mothers protecting children would not have to do executions. Gov. Pete Wilson should immediately step forth and commute her sentence to probation.

When will our government begin protecting its law-abiding citizens instead of coddling criminals?

Instead of giving her time, Nesler should be given a medal. We need more Ellie Neslers to send a message to child molesters who commit the most atrocious crime.

The judge who sentenced Ellie Nesler to 10 years in prison doesn’t see the big picture. I’m sure he’s pleased with himself for sticking resolutely to the rules, but if it was put to a vote, Ellie Nesler would walk. Tuolumne County Superior Court Judge William G. Polley is going against the grain.

God and everybody else know Nesler doesn’t deserve to be punished. She’s not a criminal. It was a mother’s love that killed Danny Driver . . . love transformed into rage so pure, incandescent and focused that five bullets found their target.

Give her probation . . . the Constitution will survive it. What good does it do to lock her up? Let her go. Let it be a clean win for the good guys.
