FOUNTAIN VALLEY : Program to Mark Group’s 29th Year

Share

To celebrate its 29th birthday, Friends of the Fountain Valley Library will hold a celebration Thursday featuring a presentation that portrays the “spirit of the Sierra Nevada range.”

“The Range of Light” will be presented at 7 p.m. by Ranger Jim Long.

The multimedia presentation, which reflects the writings and philosophy of John Muir, brings to life the Sierra wilderness.

Long, who photographed and arranged the presentation, grew up in the Sierra, and through “The Range of Light” has combined his love of the mountains with his love for classical music in creating the program.

The Friends of the Library, which has about 70 members, raises money to support the local library. The group sponsors programs, including the Children’s Summer Reading program, and buys new books for the library.

Dolores Highum, a 20-year member, said the group raises $800 a month at its bookstore next to the library. Used paperbacks are sold for 25 cents and hardcover books for 50 cents. Donated books are also accepted.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held at the library, 17635 Los Alamos St., located behind City Hall, off Slater Avenue.

More information is available by calling the library at (714) 962-1324 or Highum at (714) 842-6874.
