House Minority Leader Robert H. Michel pulled back from plans to seek a special committee to investigate President Clinton’s business dealings in Arkansas. The Illinois Republican cited the appointment of a special counsel for his change of mind. He urged that regular House committees conduct hearings on Bill and Hillary Rodham Clinton’s investment in Whitewater Development Corp.--and its relationship to the failed Madison Guaranty Savings & Loan. Senate Minority Leader Bob Dole (R-Kan.) likewise changed his mind last week.
