Chevron Chemical Co. to Cut 475 Jobs: The reductions amount to a tenth of the work force at oil giant Chevron Corp.’s chemical division and are to occur over the next three years, mostly from operations the company is closing or selling. About 345 of the positions are with operations scheduled for shutdown or sale. About 110 of the remaining 130 job cuts will come from offices in San Ramon, Calif., with the rest coming from other cities. San Francisco-based Chevron Corp. reported that its fourth-quarter profit fell 73% because of onetime charges, mostly to pay for bonuses to employees and reassessment of its crude oil holdings. The company earned $294 million, or 91 cents a share, for the October-December quarter, compared to $1.09 billion, or $3.30 a share, for the last three months of 1992.
