Heaving Tomato in Protest’s One Thing--but 350 Tons?

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Canary Islands —
Farmers, tired of sagging tomato prices in Europe, protested by heaving 350 tons of the fruit over a cliff in the Canary Islands, a local cooperative official said Wednesday.
But he suggested that the demonstration will have little effect on the market because Europeans shivering in unusually cold weather are eating fewer tomatoes.
