THOUSAND OAKS : Betty Friedan to Speak at Conference

Feminist and author Betty Friedan will be keynote speaker at the 15th annual Creative Options, a series of workshops and lectures for women scheduled Feb. 26 at Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks.

Friedan, author of “The Feminine Mystique,” was a co-founder of the National Organization for Women and the National Women’s Political Caucus. Now an instructor at New York University and USC, Friedan will speak on aging and how society views the process, which is also the subject of her new book “The Fountain of Age.”

The conference--sponsored by Cal Lutheran and the American Assn. of University Women--will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and include three workshop sessions and an hourlong luncheon. Each workshop will run for 80 minutes, and participants will have 25 choices for each time slot. Topics include “Preparing Your Daughters for the 21st Century,” “I’m Too Young--It Can’t Be Menopause!”, “Empower Yourself--Women’s Legal Rights” and “Religious Values and Women’s Issues.”

The registration deadline is Feb. 18. For those whose registration is postmarked by Feb. 10, the registration fee is $18. After Feb. 10, the registration fee is $20. Senior citizens (62 and older) and students may attend for $10. Lunch is $6 in addition to the registration fees.

Child care for children ages 3 to 9 will be provided free at the CLU Preschool, though parents should bring a sack lunch for their child. For more information, call the Cal Lutheran Women’s Resource Center at 493-3345.
