A 70-year-old woman died from injuries she suffered when the van she was riding in collided with a car at the intersection of Crown Valley and Alicia parkways, the Sheriff’s Department reported Friday.

Nelly Mener of Dana Point died at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo about two hours after the accident, which occurred at 3:20 p.m. Thursday.

Sheriff’s Lt. Tom Garner said Mener was in a wheelchair in the back of a van, which was traveling east on Crown Valley Parkway, when it collided with a car traveling south on Alicia Parkway.

“The accident is still under investigation as to who is at fault,” Garner said.

The life of the 62-year-old female driver of the van was probably saved by an air bag, Garner said. A 57-year-old woman who was riding in the front seat of the van suffered minor injuries, he said.

No one in the other car was injured.
