SOCCER : Diluted Team of Russians to Play U.S.

Share

The U.S. national soccer team, off to a 1-0-1 start in 1994, will play host to a Russian team of unknown quality tonight at the Kingdome.

For the U.S. team, the game will be a chance to simulate conditions for its first World Cup game, June 18 in the Silverdome at Pontiac, Mich.

Under different circumstances, the game against Russia would be an opportunity for the Americans to test themselves against a World Cup qualifier. But the Russian team is in disarray because of a player boycott. More than half the players on the national roster have not reported to a training camp. They are calling for the removal of Coach Pavel Sadyrin.
