The San Juan Capistrano Regional Library on Monday announced a gift of $1,000 from the Newport Beach-based Fieldstone Foundation in support of the library’s threatened Multicultural Performing and Visual Arts Series. Having lost county underwriting of the series of Saturday night jazz and ethnic performances, the library has turned to the public, which has responded with enough money--$27,911.20 so far--to keep things going through this year. “We’re here to fill a cultural niche, and that’s what we’re going to continue to do,” said librarian Jose Aponte, the series coordinator.
