DOWNTOWN L.A. : Telecommuting Plan OKd for 15,000 City Workers

A Los Angeles City Council committee approved a plan Tuesday that would cut Downtown traffic by allowing a third of the city work force to participate in a new telecommuting plan.

Up to 15,000 workers would be able to work out of their homes or from satellite offices under the plan approved by the council’s Administrative Services Committee. It will be considered by the full council later this week.

The plan, which has been in the works for almost two years, would reduce traffic and air pollution and help the city meet a mandate by the Southern California Air Quality Management District to reduce the number of workers commuting at peak hours, officials said.
