OXNARD : Caregivers to Honor 2 County Seniors

Share

Two Ventura County senior citizens who have dedicated much of their lives to serving others will be honored by a senior care group at a special dinner next week.

Myra Harrison, president of Harrison Industries, and Lloyd Fellows, an ordained minister and clinical psychologist, will be presented with Distinguished Senior awards from Caregivers Inc., a Ventura-based nonprofit organization that provides help to needy seniors.

Myra Harrison, who lives in Ventura, is the widow of E. J. Harrison, who founded the local trash collection firm that bears his name.

“She has been very much involved in the community, and done a lot of volunteer service,” said Pat Meredith, a spokeswoman for Caregivers. “Then, when (the Harrisons) became successful, they began to give back in gratitude to Ventura County for being good to them.”

Fellows, an Ojai resident, is now serving as foreman of the Ventura County Grand Jury.

He also is a qualified mental health worker who has served on the Caregivers advisory board and has worked extensively with the American Red Cross and its National Disaster Team.

The Feb. 13 dinner also will honor actor Macdonald Carey, who is best known for his 25-year role on “Days of Our Lives.” Carey will receive a special tribute for his work in the mental health community.

Tickets for the dinner, which will be held at the Mandalay Beach Resort in Oxnard, cost $100.
