Somebody’s Ex Review Puts Words Before Music

Share

It’s typical of a self-absorbed music critic like Mike Boehm to focus on the lyrical content of a (band’s songs), with almost complete disregard for its musicianship. Case in point: Somebody’s Ex and its debut CD, “Defective” (Record Reviews, Jan. 28).

Boehm’s biased critique of the songwriter’s so-called “frank expression of female lust” is pretty irrelevant, considering that this band’s first effort is brimming with solid musical content.

Is it not important that this all-female group has come up with some extremely potent original material its first time out? Perhaps if Boehm had caught the band’s show at the Coach House, he might have been more informed.

Why trash an artist solely because you don’t happen to share the point of view expressed in his or her lyrics?

Hats off to the three-chord thrash tunes from the other bands featured on the TimesLink phone excerpts.
