Madonna has recorded the title song for the Joe Pesci movie “With Honors.” The film’s soundtrack will also include Duran Duran covering Led Zep’s “Thank You,” Belly doing the old Tom Jones hit “It’s Not Unusual,” Lyle Lovett doing Irving Berlin’s “Blue Skies,” the Pretenders doing Bob Dylan’s “Forever Young” and new songs by Mudhoney and Lindsey Buckingham. It’s due in late March. . . .

House of Pain, with a new album due April 26, is trying to put together a tour that would also feature rock band Anthrax and rappers Funkdoobiest. But any trek can’t start until June, since House member Everlast is under house arrest for the next four months due to a conviction for illegally carrying a gun. . . .

Fresh from a brawl that caused $8,000 damage at MTV Europe’s London studios, Primal Scream has a new album, tentatively titled “Give Out but Don’t Give Up,” due April 12. George Clinton and veteran producer Tom Dowd (Eric Clapton, Allman Brothers) each produced a couple of songs. . . .

The The’s Matt Johnson is working on a Hank Williams tribute album, “The The Play Hank.” Johnson’s talking to Tom Waits, Michael Stipe and Leonard Cohen about possible guest vocalist spots. . . .

Smashing Pumpkin Billy Corgan and Cocteau Twin Robin Guthrie have each remixed Medicine songs for a new EP. Cocteau Elizabeth Fraser added new vocals to the Guthrie-mixed “Time Baby.” . . . A new album from MC 900 Ft. Jesus features Living Colour’s Vernon Reid playing guitar on a version of Curtis Mayfield’s “Stare and Stare.” . . .

Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Willie Nelson have just recorded a version of Nelson’s “Crazy” for the upcoming “Red Hot + Country” AIDS benefit album. Moving a little farther afield, Gilmore has also teamed up with Mudhoney for a unique project for Sub Pop Records. A vinyl single will be released featuring Gilmore doing Mudhoney’s “Blinding Sun” and the Seattle band doing the Texas troubadour’s “Tonight I’m Gonna Go Downtown.” A CD EP will also feature the two acts teaming on Townes Van Zandt’s “Buckskin Stallion Blues.” . . .

Phil Kaufman, the man who produced Charles Manson’s “Lies” album and who takes credit for cremating Gram Parsons’ body per the late country-rock singer’s wishes, will be in Southern California for a series of book signings of his autobiography, “Road Mangler Deluxe.” He’ll be at the Better World Galleria in San Diego on Friday, Book Soup in West Hollywood on Feb. 18 and Tower Records in Anaheim on Feb. 19.
