You’ve caught the movie, now catch the play (and, maybe, pick up the book one day): Will & Company, the resident theater company at the Los Angeles Theatre Center downtown, kicks off its new family classics series with a 60-minute swashbuckling adaptation of Dumas’ “The Three Musketeers” on Feb. 19, with performances at 2 and 7 p.m. The show will be performed at the same time on subsequent Saturdays through March 26.

Called “Quicktakes,” the series will consist of hourlong versions of classical plays adapted to be accessible to the whole family. “It’s aimed at everybody,” said artistic director Colin Cox. “It’s not children’s theater, and it’s not some higher echelon of classical theater, but theater that both adults and children can enjoy.”

The family series is the latest endeavor from the 6-year-old Will & Company, which has performed for nearly 500,000 Southland schoolchildren since 1988, produces adult classical theater, tours nationally and offers workshops in fencing, text interpretation and Shakespearean performance.

Upcoming shows will include “Macbeth,” “The Tempest,” “Cyrano de Bergerac,” “Hamlet,” “Great Expectations,” “The Merchant of Venice” (in both English and Spanish) and “A Christmas Carol.” Tickets are $5 per child; $7.50 per adult.
