OXNARD : Man Pleads Not Guilty in Slaying

Share

A 22-year-old Oxnard man pleaded not guilty Tuesday to murder and robbery charges.

Hector Garcia II is accused of shooting to death 24-year-old Wayne Mansir and the robbery of Smith’s Food & Drug Center at 2401 Saviers Road. A trial for Garcia was set for May 2, Deputy Dist. Atty. James D. Ellison said.

Mansir was shot at least three times at close range in the living room of his family home in the 2500 block of Peninsula Road on Sept. 29. Ten days before the shooting, a gunman stole $187,000 from the grocery store.

Garcia’s attorney has said that his client robbed the store but that the defendant shot Mansir in self-defense. Deputy Public Defender Richard Holly also has said that Mansir was a mastermind in the robbery and that disputes over the proceeds led to the shooting.
