Connie Axen, a 10-year resident of Laguna Niguel, has been voted chairwoman of the Planning Commission.

Axen, the first woman to head the commission since the community’s incorporation as a city in 1989, was a unanimous choice among its five members last week.

“I feel that the role of the Planning Commission is to help direct the future development and orderly growth of our community, keeping a balance between new growth and our environment,” Axen said.

Axen is now serving her second two-year term.

Commissioners also voted, 3 to 2, for Eli Nassah as vice chairman. Commissioners Marc Winer and Robert Healey voted for Winer.

Also last week, Linda Lindholm joined the commission after being appointed by the City Council. A five-year resident, Lindholm has served on the city’s environmental review board and holds a master’s degree in public administration.
