Intel Increases Its Share of the Chip Market: The Santa Clara company controlled 73% of worldwide sales of microprocessors in 1993, up from 69% the year before, according to research firm Dataquest. Motorola, expected to be an even stronger rival this year, moved into second place with 8% of the market, and Advanced Micro Devices, which makes a version of the Intel line of “86” chips, fell to third place and a 6% share.
