Sleeping Man Rolls Over Onto Baby Daughter, Critically Injuring Her
A man sleeping in bed next to his 2-month-old daughter Sunday accidentally rolled over onto the baby, crushing her, police said.
The infant remained in critical condition at Children’s Hospital of Orange County, according to police investigators.
Police said they got a frantic call about 12:25 a.m. from the child’s mother, who lives in the 200 block of Avocado Street.
She had just returned home from work, awakened her husband and discovered the infant pinned beneath him. The child, she told police, had stopped breathing.
A dispatcher instructed the parents on how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the child, police said.
A team of officers arrived minutes later and continued efforts to revive the baby until paramedics arrived.
The infant was first taken to Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, then moved to Children’s Hospital in Orange.
Police declined to release the names of the parents until the investigation is completed.
Investigators said the incident appears to have been a freak accident.
