Powerboat Magazine Is Moving to Ventura

The Van Nuys-based publishers of Powerboat magazine survived the earthquake, but they’re still leaving their landlocked headquarters and moving to a dockside location at Ventura Harbor in Ventura.

“We decided before the earthquake that we ought to be located on the water,” said Jerry Nordskog, the magazine’s publisher and president of its parent, Nordskog Publishing Inc. “One of our magazine’s key features is a report on boats that we test ourselves. Now, we’re going to have our own slip directly below our office windows.”

In addition to leasing second-floor offices at Ventura Harbor Village, Nordskog has moved a sister company, Nordskog Competition Center, into an industrial building a couple of miles away on Ventura’s Goodyear Avenue.

That firm manufactures speedometers and other equipment for the boating industry.

With a monthly circulation of 60,000, Powerboat claims to be the world’s leading publication in its field.

All editorial and administrative operations will move to the new offices off Spinnaker Drive next week, Nordskog said.

He said the company is leasing its Van Nuys building on Strathern Street to a producer of auto parts.

Until last year, the privately held Nordskog concern also operated units that manufactured airliner galleys and battery-operated industrial vehicles.

Those units were sold in separate deals for a total of $23 million, Nordskog said.
