County to Auction Tax-Delinquent Land

Share

County officials plan to auction 41 parcels of land Wednesday, with minimum bids ranging from $945 for a parcel in Lockwood Valley to $1.5 million for an office building in Thousand Oaks.

The tax collector has the right to auction the parcels because the landowners have failed to pay property taxes for more than five years.

Delinquent taxes from the properties total $1.3 million, according to a statement from the county treasurer’s office.

“Generally, these are strange pieces of property,” said Harold Pittman, county treasurer-tax collector. “Many times, you find you cannot build on the property, but it may have value to the people who own property next to it.”

Pittman said six of the plots have structures on them.

The properties, located throughout Ventura County, will be auctioned off beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday in the Lower Plaza Assembly Room of the Administration Building, County Government Center, 800 S. Victoria Ave., Ventura.

Only cash, cashier’s checks or certified checks will be accepted, and all of the sales are “as is.”
