Nation IN BRIEF : NEW JERSEY : $400,000 Stolen by Casino Gunman
A man shot an unarmed security guard in the eye, then escaped with a bag containing about $400,000 at Merv Griffin’s Resorts Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, police said. Meanwhile, a second man grabbed another bag containing about $600,000 from the cart being wheeled by guard Sharon McGovern and ran in another direction. The second man was apprehended, sources told Associated Press. McGovern, 54, was in critical condition at a Philadelphia hospital. He had worked for the casino since 1980. No one else was injured, a casino source said.
