Washington’s Wayne Sevier is the leading candidate to replace Howard Tippett as the Rams’ special teams coach.

Jay Zygmunt, Ram senior vice president, confirmed the team had contacted Sevier, who is considered one of the NFL’s top special teams coaches.

Sevier said Tuesday night that he has met with Ram Coach Chuck Knox and that “we’re on track for something to happen real fast.”

The Rams signed tight end Robert Brasher, who was on Detroit’s practice squad last season, and safety David Wilson, who was on Minnesota’s practice squad.

Wilson, 5 feet 10 and 192 pounds, was a seventh-round draft pick by the Vikings in 1991. Brasher, 6-5 and 244 pounds, originally signed with San Diego as a free agent in 1993.
