‘Optimism Index’ Scores Gain: Business executives are generally optimistic about profits and selling prices and they expect sales to hold steady, according to a survey. In its first-quarter survey of 11,000 executives in 16 countries, Dun & Bradstreet’s “optimism index” for net profits rose to 31 from 27 in the previous quarter. The index for selling prices jumped to 17 from 11. Sales expectations in the United States and Britain were higher but were offset by lesser optimism among business leaders in Germany and Italy. Japan continued to be a weak spot.
