TARNISHED HALO? Angels pitcher Mark Langston says he has a feeling the club may put it all together this season. But did he read the Sporting News magazine’s baseball preview? It picks the Angels dead last in the newly created American League West division. And with this kicker: “Youth movement gets old.” The Angels’ weakness, says the magazine: “The lineup consists almost entirely of youngsters who are learning on the job.”

DATE WITH AN ANGEL: Here are some dates to pencil onto the calendar if you’re an Angels fan: March 4, April 5, April 11 and Oct. 4. The first--this Friday--is when the Angels open their exhibition season at the Colorado Rockies, in Tempe, Ariz. April 5 is their first game of the 1994 season, against the Twins in Minnesota. And April 11--a Monday afternoon--is the home opener at Anaheim Stadium. . . . And Oct. 4? If Langston’s right, the Angels begin the playoffs then.

NEW TRADITION? There are 24 title insurance companies working in Orange County, but only three of them have women in roles as high as vice president, says Joanette Graves. Maybe the others should take note: On March 10, Graves, a vice president at Old Republic Title Co. in Santa Ana, will receive the Society for Advancement of Management’s 1994 Manager of the Year Award for Orange County. . . . “Maybe for some old habits are hard to break,” Graves says. “Fortunately, our company judges you by your talent.”

T-SHIRT COMPROMISE: Remember those company T-shirts at Virgin Megastore at Costa Mesa’s Triangle Square, which erroneously said the store was in Newport Beach? Store managers have come up with a compromise: The store’s 45 employees now wear and sell shirts that admit they’re in Costa Mesa. But they also still sell the Newport Beach ones. . . . Explains President Ian Duffell: “A lot of people want to buy Newport Beach T-shirts; the locals would rather buy Costa Mesa ones. So we have both.”
