NEWPORT BEACH : City to Hold Public Meeting at Library

Share

The City Council will hold a special public meeting March 11 in the Newport Center Library’s community room to discuss the city’s budgetary outlook, city officials said Thursday.

The meeting will begin at 8 a.m. and last all day, City Manager Kevin J. Murphy said, adding that it is a continuation of the special meetings held Jan. 14 and 15 at the Balboa Bay Club.

Those Balboa Bay Club meetings have caused a minor controversy among at least two residents who have claimed that the city did not properly notify the public. Murphy said that the council had publicly adjourned the Jan. 10 meeting to the Balboa Bay Club four days later and then held the meeting at the club with “the door wide open and the agenda at the back” of the room.

“It was not a secret meeting,” Murphy said. “Far from it.”
