Countywide : Assemblywoman to Be Honored Today

Share

Assemblywoman Doris Allen (R-Cypress) is scheduled to be honored today as the county’s Legislator of the Year.

The cities of Los Alamitos and Westminster nominated Allen for the award because they said she supports local government and is responsive to city and district concerns. The cities also lauded Allen for her opposition to the state’s shifting of property-tax revenue away from local government.

Cities rely on property taxes, which are collected by the state and redistributed. In recent years, the state has given cities a smaller amount of the money.

Allen, a 14-year member of the Assembly, said she will continue fighting to keep property taxes flowing back to cities.

Allen serves on the Assembly’s Ways and Means Committee, which rules on the state budget. She also sits on the Education Committee and the Natural Resources Committee.

The county’s division of the League of California Cities is scheduled to recognize Allen today at a meeting.
