Weyerhaeuser Co.’s box manufacturing operation has outgrown its Santa Paula plant and will be relocated to Camarillo.

At the new location, 20 to 30 workers will be added to the present payroll of 120, the company said.

All current employees are expected to remain with the company when the move is made in mid-1995.

Weyerhaeuser plans to upgrade and expand a box-making plant it has agreed to purchase from International Paper Co. The facility on Pleasant Valley Road has 250,000 square feet and will be expanded by 30,000 square feet, Weyerhaeuser Marketing Director Nancy Arend said.

“Our corrugated box business has been expanding and, in Santa Paula, we were landlocked, with little room for expansion,” she said. She added that production is expected to increase 35% to 50% as soon as the relocation is completed.

The Santa Paula plant, which opened in 1963, is one of 37 box factories operated by Weyerhaeuser.

The company did not disclose the price it agreed to pay for the Camarillo plant and its 10-acre site.

Weyerhaeuser is already well-established in Camarillo. Its Pardee Construction Co. unit developed Mission Oaks, a master-planned community near the site being purchased by the timber giant.
