SIMI VALLEY : Racist Flyers Found at Royal High School

Share

Students at Royal High School in Simi Valley discovered racist flyers stuffed into their lockers Monday morning, the latest in a series of anonymous leafletings at east Ventura County schools.

“The flyers were just awful,” Simi Valley Unified School District Assistant Supt. Susan Parks said. “They were hateful, derogatory and sickening.”

Parks said some teachers devoted part of their morning classes to talking about the racist literature, adding that further action by school officials was likely.

The flyers were identical to those found in lockers two months ago at Westlake High School and Simi Valley High School in December, sheriff’s officials said.

The flyers, which contain vitriolic messages about ethnic minorities, included a Los Angeles County phone number that is connected to the White Aryan Resistance, a white separatist group.

Simi Valley Police Lt. Dick Thomas said investigators believe that there is a connection to the previous incidents.

“We have no reason to believe the same person is responsible, but we believe there is some type of connection because the flyers are identical,” he said.

Parks said that while students have a conditional right to circulate flyers and other written material on campus, it is against the law for non-students to enter school grounds without permission to distribute unapproved material.

“This is just so far out of bounds,” Parks said. “Students from Simi Valley High School who received the flyers in December said they felt disgusted that someone would violate their personal space.”
