Chinese Exec Sentenced to Death in Bond Scandal: Shen Taifu, who headed the Great Wall Machinery & Electronics Group, was convicted of bribery and corruption, Supreme People’s Court President Ren Jianxin said. Li Xiaoshi, a former vice minister at the state science and technology commission, received a 20-year jail term for taking bribes from Shen, Ren said. Ren said the sentences were handed down March 4 by a Beijing court, but he did not say whether the death sentence has already been carried out. Great Wall attracted thousands of small-time investors by offering bonds with far higher yields than government-approved issues. After the company collapsed, angry investors demanded government compensation for about $115 million.
