A former Los Angeles County probation officer from Canyon Country has pleaded guilty to federal child pornography charges, federal prosecutors said Tuesday.

In pleading guilty to six counts of producing child pornography, Glenn Alan Nelson, 46, admitted that in November, 1991, he had traveled to Bangkok, Thailand, to engage in “sexually explicit conduct” with boys under the age of 18, according to Assistant U. S. Atty. Patricia Donahue.

Donahue said Nelson--who was assigned to Camp Scudder, a juvenile probation camp in Saugus at the time--had hired four boys in Bangkok and Pattaya, Thailand, to perform sexual acts by themselves, with each other and with him.

Sheriff’s deputies had conducted a search of Nelson’s home on June 2, 1992, and found camera and film processing equipment, the photographs of Nelson with the boys and other child pornography.

But before Nelson could be formally charged, he fled. An arrest warrant was issued for Nelson in connection with a 29-count federal indictment for child pornography.

Acting on a tip, Nelson was arrested last month in Joplin, Mo.

Nelson, who entered his plea late Monday, is scheduled to be sentenced May 16.
