Paint Manufacturer Fined: Sherwin-Williams Co. has agreed to pay a $1-million fine for failing to warn consumers that its Krylon spray paints contain the potentially harmful chemical toluene, officials said. The fine was imposed under a 1986 California law requiring warning labels on products made with chemicals known to cause cancer and birth defects. The state attorney general’s office and As You Sow, a San Francisco-based environmental group, filed separate lawsuits last year in San Francisco Superior Court. As part of the settlement, Ace Hardware, DAP Products and Devcon will pay a combined $200,000 fine for carrying the product.
