ROSEMEAD : McDonald Decides Against Running for Reelection

Share

After seven years on the City Council, Dennis McDonald is calling it quits.

McDonald, 51, an El Monte fire marshal, announced in a letter to city officials that he would not seek reelection April 12 even though his name is on the ballot.

He said it was a mistake for him to run for office again and it was time for someone else to take the post. McDonald was first appointed to the council in 1986 and gave up his seat on the Rosemead school board to take the post. He was then elected to the council in 1990.

Five candidates are still competing for the two vacant seats on April 12: incumbent Gary A. Taylor, former Garvey school board member Elizabeth Diaz, former Councilman Jay Imperial, property manager Dolly Leong and Baldwin Park teacher Richard Reynoso.
