Moving to end a dispute over the lease for the Los Angeles Rams practice facility, the owners of the site have agreed to consider putting a cap on restoration costs the team would have to pay if it vacates the facility, officials said Thursday.

The issue of how much the Rams should pay to restore the former school site to its original condition has been a point of contention in negotiations among the city, the ballclub and the Magnolia School District, which owns the property at the former Juliette Low Elementary School on Lincoln Avenue.

School district officials have become increasingly frustrated with the Rams’ refusal to renew the lease for the facility, which expired Dec. 31. The lease was extended for a month while the parties worked to resolve the situation. The Rams currently occupy the site without a lease.

The district has imposed a deadline on the Rams to sign the lease today or face possible eviction from the practice facility. In a complicated arrangement, the city subleases the site from the district and then leases it to the Rams.

City Manager James D. Ruth said Thursday that the deadline might be extended if the district agrees to set a limit on the restoration costs. But, he said, it is a decision that must be made by district officials.

“The district has been absolutely wonderful in trying to get this (lease) settled,” he said.

School district officials could not be reached for comment.
