Two cousins were found shot to death in a car on Katella Avenue on Friday, and police were searching for their killer.

Police said Julio Bautista, 26, and Benjamin Ibarra, 25, had been dead for several hours when a female relative discovered their bodies in a battered Ford Fairmont at 1:05 p.m.

The car was parked at a curb in front of a condominium complex at 2011 W. Katella Ave. One body was in the front seat, the other in the back.

Sgt. Steve Rodig, head of Anaheim’s robbery-homicide unit, said no motive has been determined in the slayings, but gang involvement has been ruled out. He said it is also unclear whether the men were shot at the scene or if they were killed elsewhere and driven there.

“We really can’t say much at this time,” Rodig said.

Garden Grove businessman Bill Roth said he was heading down Katella to meet his wife for lunch when “a hysterical” woman began frantically waving down traffic. He thought someone might be having a heart attack.

“I have CPR training, so I pulled over,” Roth said. “I pulled the guy in the front seat over, but it was pretty obvious there was nothing I could do.”

Relatives at the scene said the men were recent immigrants from Michoacan, Mexico.

Javier Bautista, uncle of the 26-year-old victim, said “he was a very nice kid” who liked to hang around with his friends at a garage fixing cars.

While police examined the bodies, several residents of the condominium complex gathered in their driveway to watch.

“We have never had anything like this here,” said one woman, who would not give her name. “It scares you.”
