PARK & RIDE? If you can’t decide...

PARK & RIDE? If you can’t decide between taking your bicycle or taking the bus, you can do both in Orange County now. The county bus system has new bicycle racks on the back of buses along five of its lines in Fullerton, Orange and Irvine. . . . Loading is easy, takes under 30 seconds, officials say, and the bus driver doesn’t mind waiting. More routes are expected to be added. In fact, the County Transportation Authority is asking you to call (714) 560-OCTA (560-6282) to tell them where you want them.

TOUGH MAINTAINING: You might not think there would be a great demand for maintenance jobs--starting pay under $24,000. But the city of Buena Park has found itself trying to choose two people for maintenance work out of 625 applicants. In past years, officials say, they haven’t had one-fourth that many. . . . Says the city’s director of administrative services: “A lot of people out there are still unemployed. Any job we’re recruiting for, the applicant pool is going to be large.”

MORE BEAUTY: It’s been a busy time for Cal State Fullerton alumna Linda Woolverton, the screenwriter two years ago for the Disney movie “Beauty and the Beast.” She’s got a new children’s movie in the works for Miramax, and she’s been living on both coasts, preparing the book for next month’s Broadway stage opening of “Beauty and the Beast.” But tonight, Woolverton returns to her alma mater: She’s one of four being honored by the university as distinguished alumni.

AFTER STARDOM: A song in the long-running musical “A Chorus Line” says: “If Troy Donahue could be a movie star, then I could be a movie star.” Maybe his acting seemed a little wooden to critics, but Donahue was still the blond heartthrob of TV and movies three decades back. And he still gets calls when they’re looking for beach heroes. . . . Example: He’s guest master of ceremonies at a National Charity League gala at the Huntington Beach’s Waterfront Hilton resort tonight. Theme: “Surf City, Here We Come.”
