Heimel offers her waspishly funny comments on life, love and feminism in this collection of essays. Many of these subjects have been covered by other writers--love in the ‘90s, the search for commitment as men and women vie for the title of victim, New York vs. Los Angeles. What sets Heimel’s work apart is her delightfully snide style. Although she pokes well-deserved fun at contemporary problems, describing America as “a dysfunctional country in search of a 12-step program,” Heimel is not afraid to expose a more vulnerable side, as she tries to warm herself by the ashes of her ‘60s idealism.
