Inglewood police began a crackdown on loitering youths Friday night as a new city curfew took effect. Police arrested 11 minors on the streets between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. Saturday.

The youths, including six suspected gang members, were photographed, fingerprinted and cited before their parents were called. One of the 11 arrested, a 17-year-old, was caught with an assault rifle and a loaded, 30-round clip, police said.

Under the law, minors on city streets must be accompanied by their parents or have a specific destination. The curfew will be in effect from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays. It begins an hour later on weekend nights.

“I’m really happy with the results,” said Inglewood City Councilman Jose Fernandez, who helped design the curfew approved last month. “There were very few (violators) on the streets.”
