ORANGE : Plan for Recreational Facility OKd by City

Share

The City Council has unanimously approved a plan to build a recreational facility, including a golf driving range, at the site of an abandoned school.

Super Sports Inc. and the Orange Unified School District received the city’s endorsement last week to build a golf practice range with 100 tees at the former Peralta Junior High School site, 2190 N. Canal St. The facility will also feature chipping bunkers, putting greens, a golf academy and a pro shop.

The new facility will also include a soccer field, volleyball courts, batting cages, a baseball diamond and tennis courts. Outdoor lights will be installed at the facility.

The development also calls for converting a former science building into a child care center. The center will be able to care for about 118 children.

In addition to the 30 existing parking spaces, 285 new off-street parking spaces will be provided.

The council, however, voted down a proposal to hold bingo games at the new facility.
