Joe Mullen began the day by riding to the hospital in an ambulance with his brother, Brian, who suffered an apparent seizure while at practice with the New York Islanders.

Mullen ended it by scoring the winning goal with 3:18 to play as the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Islanders, 2-1, at Uniondale, N.Y., Sunday night.

Edmonton 5, Quebec 3--Scott Pearson and Mike Stapleton scored 51 seconds apart early in the third period to snap a tie and send the Oilers to a victory at Quebec.

Florida 5, Philadelphia 3--Dave Lowry assisted on the tying goal and scored another to lead the Panthers to a victory at Miami.

Calgary 6, Toronto 3--Robert Reichel scored three goals and defenseman Al MacInnis had a goal and five assists for the Flames at Toronto.

Washington 3, Tampa Bay 0--Don Beaupre made 23 saves as the Capitals won at Orlando, Fla.

Buffalo 6, Ottawa 2--Dale Hawerchuk and Yuri Khmylev each scored twice on power plays to give the Sabres a victory at home.

St. Louis 4, Chicago 3--Peter Stastny scored 33 seconds into overtime in the Blues’ victory.

Dallas 2, Vancouver 1--Paul Broten’s goal 13 seconds into overtime at Dallas lifted the Stars into the Western Conference playoffs.
