$6 Million Paid to City Lobbyists
Lobbyists were paid nearly $6 million in 1993 to influence decisions at Los Angeles City Hall and contributed $230,000 to the campaigns of the city’s elected officials, according to a report released Monday.
The 25 top lobbying firms reported receiving two-thirds of the fees, the report by the city Ethics Commission said.
The highest fees were paid by the developer of the Warner Ridge commercial project in Woodland Hills ($168,000) and Lockheed Air Terminal ($158,000), which holds contracts at Los Angeles International Airport.
A City Council committee Wednesday will discuss amendments to the city ethics law that could force more lobbyists to report their earnings. One change would attempt to increase reporting by lawyers, many of whom cite attorney-client confidentiality in refusing to report their lobbying earnings.
