LAKE FOREST : Council to Discuss Drive-By Shooting

Share

The hail of bullets didn’t hit anyone, but a botched drive-by shooting last week has prompted a special City Council meeting at 5 p.m. today to deal with gang problems.

The council will hear about the community’s concerns and discuss what City Hall can do to help Orange County sheriff’s investigators find whomever fired a gun from a passing car on Tama Lane last week.

Councilwoman Ann Van Haun said investigators suspect there were gang ties in the drive-by incident and that local students may be involved.

“We called the meeting to talk about what we can do to help,” she said. “We’re not going to stand by and not do anything.”

Van Haun said that options before the council range from offering a reward for information leading to the gunman’s arrest to discussing with school administrators ways the city might ease gang-related problems.

“We’re going to take a stand right here,” said Van Haun. “We don’t want to wait for things to get worse.”
