VENTURA : District Employees Receive Pay Raises

The Ventura school board has approved a 1% pay raise and 4% bonus for teachers, in addition to boosting the salaries of all non-teaching employees, including the district superintendent.

The raises will be retroactive to the beginning of this school year.

For most teachers, the 1% raise will amount to only a few hundred dollars, boosting the annual base pay for beginning teachers from about $22,890 to $23,120 and the salaries for more experiences teachers from about $47,500 to $47,970.

The onetime 4% bonus will amount to between $900 and $1,900 for most teachers.

The board also granted a 2% raise to all non-teaching employees, from bus drivers to assistant superintendents. Also, non-teaching employees who are not in management will get a onetime 1% bonus.

And the salary of Supt. Joseph Spirito will rise by nearly 12% over the next three years, going up by $3,255 each year for a total increase of $9,765. With the boost, Spirito’s base salary will rise from $84,091 to $93,856 a year.

In addition, he will earn $9,886 in stipends. Like other district employees, he gets a $500 stipend for his doctorate and additional pay for length of service.
