ROUNDUP : Windmiller Is Perfect Again, 8-0

Amy Windmiller pitched a perfect game for Cal State Northridge, her second in three games and her fourth no-hitter in five, as the Matadors defeated Minnesota, 8-0, and completed a two-victory day in pool play of the Cal State Fullerton tournament Wednesday.

Windmiller (10-1) struck out eight. Earlier, the sixth-ranked Matadors (21-3), defending tournament champions, scored seven runs in the first two innings, then cruised to an 8-1 victory over Massachusetts.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

CS Northridge d. Pepperdine, 15-7, 15-5, 15-9--Oliver Heitmann had 17 kills to lead the Matadors (12-8, 8-6) past the Waves (9-6, 7-6) in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match at Pepperdine.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Cal Lutheran 7, Eastern Connecticut State 0--Marc Weiss turned in his fourth complete game, scattering six hits to lead the host Kingsmen (14-3-1) in a rematch of last year’s NCAA Division III College World Series first-round game in which Cal Lutheran was eliminated, 1-0.

HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL

Newbury Park 5, Channel Islands 3--Keith Smith and Jeff Bennett hit back-to-back solo home runs with two out in the sixth to break a 3-3 tie in a Marmonte League opener. Kes Andersen went three for three for Newbury Park (5-3, 1-0).

Royal 9, Camarillo 6--Bryan Fernandez doubled twice, including one that cleared the bases in the fourth, to lead visiting Royal (5-1, 1-0) in its Marmonte League opener. Maki Kramer earned the complete-game victory, and helped his cause with a home run.

Thousand Oaks 5, Agoura 4--The Lancers rallied from a two-run deficit in the bottom of the seventh to win the Marmonte League game at Thousand Oaks (5-2, 1-0). The Lancers took advantage of three walks, two wild pitches and an error to score three times.

Loyola 8, Harvard-Westlake 7--Danny Mason’s two-run triple sparked a four-run first inning for Harvard-Westlake, and the host Wolverines (4-4, 1-2) added three more in the third but couldn’t hold the 7-0 lead in a Mission League game in which the teams issued 17 walks.

St. Bernard 8, Alemany 4--Viking shortstop Brandon Pernell hit two home runs and had four RBIs in a Mission League game at St. Bernard (7-2, 2-1).

Van Nuys 6, Poly 4--The Wolves scored the deciding runs in the fifth when third baseman Paul Cespedes’ throw pulled Jerry Delgado off first and two Van Nuys runners scored in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Van Nuys (4-6, 1-1).

Monroe 6, Grant 5--Eddie Rios had two RBIs to lead visiting Monroe (3-4, 2-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game. The Vikings scored five times in the fourth on five consecutive singles.

Sylmar 2, Birmingham 0--Spartan pitcher Carlos Velazco threw a four-hit shutout in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Birmingham. Sylmar (7-3, 2-0) posted its runs in the top of the fifth.

Canoga Park 5, North Hollywood 4--Hunter third baseman Jeremiah Johnson singled in the go-ahead run in the fifth inning of the Valley Pac-8 Conference game at North Hollywood (4-3, 0-2). Victor Olivares went three for four with a home run and two RBIs for Canoga Park (4-2-1, 2-0).

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL

Alemany 6, St. Bernard 0--Sophie Contreras (10 strikeouts) lost a no-hitter with one out in the seventh, but the Indians (8-1, 2-0) easily defeated St. Bernard (2-4, 0-2) in a Mission League game.
