Nintendo, Atari Games Reach Settlement: Nintendo of America Inc. and Atari Games Corp. said they have settled all litigation between them regarding alleged patent and copyright infringements and antitrust violations. In a statement, both sides said most terms were confidential. Each party agreed to dismiss all claims, including judgments of patent infringement and copyright infringement previously awarded to Nintendo against Atari Games. Also, Nintendo receives certain unspecified payments as well as certain patent licenses from Atari Games, which again becomes a Nintendo licensee. The settlement is the result of a lawsuit initially filed by Atari Games in 1988. Nintendo of America, based near Seattle, is a subsidiary of Nintendo Co. Japan, the world’s largest manufacturer and marketer of video games. Atari Games, based in Milpitas, Calif., is a privately held corporation and is a developer and manufacturer of coin-operated video games.
