World IN BRIEF : UKRAINE : Chernobyl Reactors Unsafe, Agency Says
The Chernobyl nuclear power plant, site of the world’s worst nuclear disaster, remains unsafe, the United Nations’ nuclear watchdog said. Harsh weather has caused serious deterioration, such as gaps in the concrete shell sealing off the Chernobyl nuclear reactor that exploded in 1986, the International Atomic Energy Agency warned. Inspectors also found “numerous safety deficiencies” in the two reactors still operating at the Ukrainian plant. The U.N. agency said experts will probably meet in April to discuss solutions.
